The Inter Livery Pancake Races are held every year in Guildhall Yard on Shrove Tuesday, which falls this year on 13th February, reports Mary Cole-Adams.
For crowd control reasons there are a limited number of teams allowed to compete but all Liverymen are welcome to attend to watch this spectacle and to purchase the excellent pancakes which are on sale in the yard.
There are a number of categories with races for the Masters (gowned, robed and kitted out, for health and safety reasons, with oven gloves and aprons), Liverymen, Ladies and a novelty race with fancy dress to reflect the Lord Mayor’s charity theme.
Racing starts at 12.00 and concludes with the presentation of coveted trophies by a City dignitary just before 1.30pm. Attendance is recommended.
