Medicinal Plant Summer School

The Chelsea Physic Garden (CPG) is hosting a Medicinal Plant Summer School this coming June. Led by tutors; Maria Vlotides (tutor, author, degree in Herbal Medicine) and Letta Jones (lecturer in Horticulture and the History of Gardens, volunteer gardener and guide).

This four-day course will explore the history of medicinal plants (and focus on 8 key ones) and botanical gardens from a European context, from the 1st Century CE to the present.

It will also highlight the 'importance and relevance of modern botanical gardens' via:

  • Walks and tours around Chelsea Physic Garden
  • A plant identification workshop
  • The chance to see some of the same plants in ancient Herbals, books and herbarium specimens in the CPG collection
  • Practical sessions to prepare them into usable natural remedies.

    Days 1 & 2 - focus on the history and identification of the eight key plants (with Garden tours),
  • Days 3 & 4 will be practical herbalism.
