LIGHTING THE WAY FOR FOOD PRODUCTION

June 17th 2019

The Lightmongers’ Company hold their William Wright Lecture on 27th June (6pm - 8pm University College London Auditorium).

Entitled ‘Indoor Farming: a Revolution in Food Production Enabled by LEDs’, the topic is described thus:

Plant Factories (also known as indoor farms or vertical farms) have gained widespread attention over the last few years. Pioneered in Japan, there has been an acceleration in the adoption of plant factories in other regions such as the USA, Canada, Europe and South-East Asia.

This is possible through the use of LED light that gives new opportunities in the food production chain. Dr Celine Nicole will discuss how this innovative way of producing food can improve taste and freshness as well as eliminate pesticides.
